The London List Abroad: Artist Alfredo Barsuglia has built a secret swimming pool somewhere in the Mojave DesertThe London List

By Sam Bathe on 5 Jul 2014

A few hours drive from LA and a long walk from the road, artist Alfredo Barsuglia built a secret swimming pool in the middle of the 25,000 square-mile Mojave Desert. The pool is free to use, you just need to pick up the GPS coordinates of its location and a key, if it’s available for the day, from the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in West Hollywood. The 11ft x 5ft project is titled Social Pool and for the artist “is about the effort people make to reach a luxury good” and uses solar power to run its filter and chlorination systems. Visiting season runs through to September 30th but try to go early as apparently it fills up by noon.
